Reaching One Million Subscribers

In August 2023, we were proud to announce that we have reached 1 million "first-party" subscribers. We’re a metrics driven business and one of our key performance indicators is growth in subscriber numbers while maintaining a very low unsubscribe rate of 0.07%. Over the years, we have honed our strategies and learned from our experiences to provide our subscribers with valuable content. We are dedicated to delivering information that resonates with our audience and keeps them engaged.

Our story began back in the late '90s and early 2000s with AZoM.com focused on educating engineers, designers, and researchers through the internet. As time passed, we expanded into other related areas, and three years ago, we celebrated reaching an incredible 100 million annual unique visitors milestone.

Recently, we surpassed one million subscribers, a significant accomplishment for our team. We are greatly appreciative by the support we have received from every one of our subscribers and key stakeholders who share our thirst for scientific content: We are committed to delivering even more engaging content as they continue to grow with us.

GDPR and CCPA

But it hasn’t always been plain sailing: Navigating the challenges posed by GDPR was one of our defining moments. We knew we had to be meticulous in ensuring compliance while maintaining legitimate interest. We evaluated the consent of our European subscribers thoroughly. As a result, we made the difficult decision to remove a subset of them, as it was necessary to uphold our ethical principles and continue to build trust with our audience.

Managing privacy laws across various jurisdictions continues to be an ongoing effort. We are steadfast in our dedication to staying updated with the latest regulations and maintaining compliance. We use third-party certifications to validate our practices and ensure we are doing the right thing by the subscriber.

Our approach to managing subscribers has always been stringent. We believe in transparency, and we don't keep inactive subscribers just to boost the numbers. We want an engaged and active subscriber base that genuinely benefits from consuming our content and builds long-lasting value within the business.

Ian is a second time around entrepreneur, who founded Dynamic-Ceramic in 1992 and led the company through to a successful exit in 1997. AZoNetwork was established in 2000 in Sydney Australia. Ian has a first class honours degree in Engineering Metallurgy and Ph.D. in Engineering Ceramics and Tribology. Ian's a former member of the Institute of Materials, Materials Strategy Commission and the UK's Institute of Ceramics. He also served as Chairman of Medilink North West (a medical devices consortium) and is a former Director of the Australian Nano Business Forum. When not indulging in his passion for all things webby, techy and digital he can still be seen running around the soccer field trying desperately to emulate his Leeds United heroes from the 70's.
